Patient Safety in Care of Older People

As life expectancy increases, the number of people living with long-term conditions in older age also rises. Their healthcare needs are complex and this award seeks to recognise projects that improve the safety of older people in either primary or acute settings. The media has focused on some disturbing reports of care of older people, but this award seeks to show the other side of the story and some excellent examples of care of this patient group.

Specific entry criteria

Entries will be judged against the following criteria:

  • Innovation - the quality and originality of the idea;
  • Results - the impact and outcomes of the initiative;
  • Sustainability - the long-lasting potential of the initiative;
  • Dissemination - how the learning from the initiative has been spread to other parts of the organisation and beyond.
