Infection Control and Hygiene

Healthcare organisations have made excellent progress in meeting targets for reducing rates of healthcare-associated infections. However, these remain a significant risk to patients and a priority for healthcare providers. This category seeks entries from organisations that have significantly contributed to patient safety through a reduction in healthcare-associated infection rates and/or an improvement in hygiene and cleanliness. Projects could include those developed in response to a specific issue that the organisation has identified or in order to meet local and national targets.

Specific entry criteria

Entries will be judged against the following criteria:

  • How far they are in accordance with national and local policy on reducing healthcare-associated infections and improving hygiene and cleanliness;
  • Evidence-based practice;
  • Proven success, including transparent and measurable outcomes;
  • How far the learning from the project has been disseminated within the organisation and beyond.
